Postgraduate Diploma in Public Financial Management with the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London

The Diploma is designed to enable individuals to advise on and make financial decisions and policy choices in relation to the financing and management of public infrastructure and services. The programme provides invaluable preparation for high achieving personnel in governments, public services, international organisations and NGOs. It is particularly relevant to members who wish to gain further education in public finance.

Graduates work within a wide range of organisations including:

  • Cabinet Office, UK
  • Department for International Relations, UK
  • Ministry of Finance, Republic of South Africa
  • Department of Customs, Jamaica
  • Army of Switzerland
  • United Nations Mission in the Sudan.

Diploma overview

  • Graduates of the diploma are entitled to use the designatory letters PG Dip (London)
  • ACCA members and affiliates are entitled to a discount of over one third off the registration fee. The total fee, inclusive of discount, is £4300.
  • ACCA members and affiliates automatically meet the registration criteria.
  • The programme consists of three core courses as follows:
    • Public Financial Management: Planning and Performance
    • Public Financial Management: Revenue
    • Financial Reporting and Audit
  • Plus one elective course selected from the following subjects:
    • Privatisation and Public-Private Partnerships
    • Project Appraisal and Impact Analysis
    • Decentralisation and Local Governance.

Registration, Study and Examinations
Affiliates and members can apply online using the form provided in the 'See also' area. For courses starting in January 2009 registration closes on 17 November 2008; for those starting in June 2009, registration closes in on 31 March 2009.

The course is available on a modular, distance learning basis. The distance learning study calendar consists of five sessions per year. Each session lasts 8-10 weeks and each course lasts one session. Each course is assessed by two assignments and a three-hour examination held annually in September/October.
